Robert ap Huw manuscript is the earliest surviving body of harp music in Europe and originates from Wales. The Cerdd Dant tradition from which it descends was used by early bards to sing poetry for Welsh royalty. The Plygain tradition, featuring unaccompanied harmonized singing, takes place during Christmas and New Year in Welsh churches and chapels. Traditional Welsh music comprises a rich tapestry of ballads, such as 'Yr Eneth ga'dd ei gwrthod' from the 19th century, alongside dance reels preserved by figures like Lady Llanover. The 1960s and 1970s saw a Celtic folk revival with groups like Ar Log, and songs of political and social commentary by artists such as Dafydd Iwan. The triple harp, despite its Italian origins, remains a symbol of Welsh tradition, revitalized by musicians like Nansi Richards and Robin Huw Bowen.
