Veikko Olavi "Vexi" Salmi was a Finnish lyricist, who began his career in the 1960s and continued up until his death. He composed over 4,000 songs, and more than 2,400 were recorded. Salmi also authored several novels and poetry, collaborated on music albums, and judged a TV program on music lyrics. His work earned him the Juha Vainio Writer's Award and inspired the naming of the Vexi Salmi Award after him.
