More about Tomás Luis de Victoria
Tomás Luis de Victoria, sometimes Italianised as da Vittoria (c. 1548 – c. 20–27 August 1611), was a renowned Spanish composer of the Renaissance. His oeuvre, almost exclusively sacred and polyphonic vocal music in Latin, reflects his roles as Catholic priest, accomplished organist, and singer. Victoria served in both Spain and Italy, but his preference was for composition over performance. His musical style was marked by intense expressiveness, and he was particularly admired for his motets and works for the Dead and Holy Week. His contribution to music manifested the passion of Spanish mysticism and religion, leading to a 20th-century revival of his works.
