Sven-David Sandström was a prominent Swedish composer, born on 30th October 1942 in Motala. He pursued musicology and art history at Stockholm University and studied composition at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm. As an educator, he served at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, and Indiana University Bloomington's Jacobs School of Music. His oeuvre spans operas, oratorios, ballets, choral works, and orchestral compositions, including his High Mass, a Requiem, multiple concertos, and operas such as 'Jeppe: The Cruel Comedy.' Notable for drawing upon modernist, minimalist, jazz, and popular music influences, Sandström also derived inspiration from classic choral works, reinterpreting them in his distinctive style. He passed away on 10 June 2019.
