Sunleif Rasmussen is the foremost Faroese composer of classical music. Born in 1961 in Sandur, Faroe Islands, he studied composition in Denmark and electronic music in Copenhagen. Gaining recognition, he received grants and won the Nordic Council Music Prize for his Symphony no. 1 - 'Oceanic Days'. Rasmussen’s works reflect his jazz background, Faroese folk music, as well as electroacoustic and spectral music influences. His music, often inspired by Faroese nature and hymns, encapsulates a natural complexity and evocativeness.
