Snow Patrol are a Northern Irish-Scottish rock band formed in Dundee, Scotland in 1994. The group was initially formed by University of Dundee students Gary Lightbody, Mark McClelland, and Michael Morrison, known then as Shrug. They performed local gigs and released their first EP, The Yogurt vs. Yoghurt Debate. After Morrison's departure and a name change to Polarbear to avoid conflicts, the band again renamed to Snow Patrol in 1997. With the lineup consisting of Lightbody and others over the years, they released their debut album Songs for Polarbears in 1998. Although critically successful, it did not achieve substantial commercial success. Snow Patrol struggled in their early years until their breakthrough with the album Final Straw and the hit single 'Run'. Over the years, they've won several awards and achieved international fame, especially with their songs 'Chasing Cars' and albums Eyes Open and A Hundred Million Suns. By 2023, Quinn and Wilson had left the group.
