Robert Gerhard i Ottenwaelder, known as Roberto Gerhard, was a Spanish Catalan composer, musical scholar, and writer. Born on 25 September 1896 in Valls, Spain, he studied under Arnold Schönberg and became his only Spanish pupil. Gerhard's music flourished in Catalonia's avant-garde scene until he was exiled during the Spanish Civil War. His later years were spent in Cambridge, England, where he died on 5 January 1970.
