Richard Rodgers

Richard Charles Rodgers was an American composer notable for his work in musical theater. With 43 Broadway musicals and over 900 songs, he was a seminal figure in American music in the 20th century. His famed collaborations with Lorenz Hart through the 1920s and 1930s, and later Oscar Hammerstein II from the 1940s to 1950s, produced classics like 'Oklahoma!', 'The Sound of Music', and 'South Pacific'. His work evolved the Broadway musical, blending character-focused storytelling with song. A recipient of all four top American entertainment awards—Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony—he was also honored with a Pulitzer Prize. Rodgers left an indelible mark on music and theater.
