Rachel Portman

Rachel Mary Berkeley Portman, born on 11 December 1960, is a groundbreaking British composer renowned for her work in film, television, and theatre. Winning an Academy Award for Best Original Score with 'Emma' in 1996, she holds the distinction of being the first female composer to earn this accolade. Her work includes the celebrated scores for 'The Cider House Rules' and 'Chocolat.' An honoree of the Order of the British Empire, Portman's prolific contributions span over a hundred scores, including the opera 'The Little Prince' and 'The Water Diviner' choral symphony.
