More about R.E.M.
R.E.M. was an American rock band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 1980 by drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and lead vocalist Michael Stipe. Pioneers in alternative rock, they are noted for Buck's ringing guitar style, Stipe's distinctive vocals, Mills's melodic bass lines, and Berry's tight drumming. The band saw early success and was pivotal in the genre's development. Berry's 1997 departure preceded their mixed success in the 2000s. R.E.M. sold over 90 million albums worldwide before amicably disbanding in 2011.
