Peter Dickinson (15 November 1934 – 16 June 2023) was an influential English composer, musicologist, author, and pianist. Dickinson was born in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. He studied organ at Queens' College, Cambridge under Philip Radcliffe before moving to the United States to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he was exposed to the works of experimental composers, establishing his foundation in improvisation and experimental music upon returning to England. Dickinson was also active as an educator and writer, creating significant study programs in American music at Keele University, where he was a professor of music. His compositions exhibit a unique blend of serious and popular styles, often incorporating elements of aleatory and experimental music.
