Orlando Gibbons was an English composer and keyboard player, recognized as one of the last masters of the English Virginalist and Madrigal Schools. Born into a prominent musical family, he became a leading composer and organist in England in the early 17th century until his untimely death in 1625. Gibbons was notable for developing Byrd's foundations of the English madrigal and anthems, influencing future English composers and the Baroque era through his own compositions and teaching.
