More about Norman Whitfield
Norman Jesse Whitfield was an American songwriter and producer, known for his work with Berry Gordy's Motown labels in the 1960s. As a pioneer of Motown Sound and psychedelic soul, Whitfield co-wrote and produced many hits for Motown artists. His most notable works include 'Ain't Too Proud to Beg,' 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine,' and 'Papa Was a Rollin' Stone.' He worked closely with the Temptations, producing eight of their albums. Whitfield also established Whitfield Records in 1975, producing the hit 'Car Wash' by Rose Royce. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004.
