Nicola Frances LeFanu, born on 28 April 1947 in Wickham Bishops, Essex, England, is a distinguished British composer and academic. She is the daughter of William LeFanu and Dame Elizabeth Maconchy, herself a renowned composer. Educated at St Hilda's College, Oxford, and as a Harkness Fellow at Harvard, LeFanu furthered her musical education by securing a Mendelssohn Scholarship in 1972. Her career includes roles such as Director of Music at St Paul's Girls' School and teaching positions at King's College London and the University of York, from which she retired in 2008. LeFanu's prolific output includes around sixty works spanning orchestra, chamber groups, voices, and a notable six operas, published by Chester Novello and Edition Peters.
