Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife songwriting, production, and recording duo composed of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Born in Fairfield, South Carolina, Nickolas Ashford became a prominent figure in the music industry after meeting Valerie Simpson at Harlem's White Rock Baptist Church in 1964. They wrote and produced a myriad of hit songs, including 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' and 'I'm Every Woman.' They enjoyed a successful career with chart-topping duets like 'Solid' (1984) and were honored with their induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, among other accolades. Rolling Stone also recognized their significant contribution to music, ranking them No. 19 on its list of the 20 Greatest Duos of All Time【27†source】.
