Niccolò Castiglioni was an Italian composer, pianist, and writer on music. Born in Milan, he began studying piano at seven, attending the Milan Conservatory. His early compositions echoed Stravinsky's neo-classicism. Later, influenced by the Second Viennese School, he ventured into twelve-tone techniques. Castiglioni's work resonates with Webern's style but also engages with the European avant-garde. His teaching career spanned the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, SUNY Buffalo, University of Michigan, University of California at San Diego, and University of Washington. He returned to Italy to teach in conservatories of Trent, Milan, Como, and once more in Milan.
