Mieczysław Weinberg was a distinguished Polish, Soviet, and Russian composer and pianist, whose large body of work includes 22 symphonies, numerous chamber pieces, a violin concerto, and seven operas. Born on December 8, 1919, in Warsaw, he was a peer of Dmitri Shostakovich with whom he exchanged creative ideas. In the 21st century, Weinberg's music is receiving greater acclaim, with his contributions increasingly recognized within the classical music canon.
