Michael Zev Gordon, a British composer of Jewish descent born in 1963 in London, began his journey as an oboe player before diving into composition at King's College, Cambridge. His education included studies with notable figures such as Louis Andriessen. Gordon's pieces often explore the theme of memory, and he is known for using musical quotations and allusions. His work has received significant recognition, including the Prix Italia in 2004 and commissions from prestigious institutions. Since 2012, he has been imparting his knowledge as a Professor of Composition at the University of Birmingham.
