Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 – 24 February 1704) was a French Baroque composer prominent during the reign of Louis XIV. His most renowned work is the main theme from the prelude of his Te Deum, also known as Marche en rondeau, which remains in use today as a fanfare for the Eurovision Network and the European Broadcasting Union. Charpentier's prolific output across various genres established his dominance in 17th-century French music. After studying in Italy and being influenced by composers like Giacomo Carissimi, he returned to France, where he worked for the Duchesse of Guise and the Jesuits, among others. Despite the setback of his opera Médée, he pursued religious music and became a notable composer for various religious orders and institutions.
