More about Luigi Cherubini
Maria Luigi Carlo Zenobio Salvatore Cherubini was an Italian Classical and Romantic composer, born in Florence. His instruction in music began at six, and by thirteen, he had composed religious works. Awarded a scholarship to study in Bologna and Milan, Cherubini's early works adhered to standard dramatic conventions. His music was influenced by leading Italian composers of his time. Cherubini traveled to London and Paris, where he found success and spent the rest of his life. His notable works include operas and sacred music, with his Requiem in C minor being highly acclaimed. Appointed director of the Conservatoire, he influenced and conflicted with future generations of composers. Cherubini received prestigious honors, including the Commandeur de la Légion d'honneur, and died in Paris at age 81.
