More about Leoš Janáček
Leoš Janáček was a Czech composer, musical theorist, folklorist, publicist, and teacher, known for his modern musical style inspired by Moravian and other Slavic music, as well as Eastern European folk music. Born in Hukvaldy, he demonstrated musical talent early and was educated in Brno, Prague, Leipzig, and Vienna. Janáček devoted himself to folkloristic research and married Zdenka Schulzová. His daughter Olga's death profoundly influenced his work, most notably in his opera Jenůfa. Success came with Jenůfa's revised edition at the National Theatre in Prague. Celebrated later works include Káťa Kabanová, The Cunning Little Vixen, and the Sinfonietta.
