Kalevi Ensio Aho is a prolific Finnish composer, renowned for his large-scale works. Born on 9 March 1949 in Forssa, he displayed musical talent early in life, leading to studies at the Sibelius Academy under Einojuhani Rautavaara and in Berlin with Boris Blacher. Throughout his career, Aho held teaching positions in music theory and composition. Since 1992, he has served as composer-in-residence for the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, with his works being extensively recorded by conductor Osmo Vänskä. Aho has composed an impressive body of work including symphonies, concertos, operas, and chamber music, embracing neo-classical, modernist, and post-modernist styles.
