John Barry

John Barry Prendergast OBE, an English composer and conductor of film music, was born in York. He composed the scores for eleven James Bond films and arranged the 'James Bond Theme' for 'Dr. No.' His career spanned over 50 years, winning five Academy Awards, including for 'Born Free' and 'Out of Africa', which also earned him Grammy Awards. A prolific artist, Barry's work extended beyond film to TV themes and musicals. He moved to the US in 1975 and lived there until his death in 2011`[1]`.
