Johann Nepomuk Hummel (14 November 1778 – 17 October 1837) was an Austrian composer and virtuoso pianist. He was a pivotal figure in the transition from Classical to Romantic music, studying under Mozart, Salieri, and Clementi. He interacted with notable composers such as Beethoven and Schubert. Born in Pressburg (modern-day Bratislava, Slovakia), he was a child prodigy and a student of Mozart's. Hummel's extensive concert tours and a European tour with his father honed his skills further. His oeuvre mainly comprises piano works, contributing significantly to the instrument's repertoire. Hummel also held influential positions, such as the Kapellmeister posts in Eisenstadt and Weimar, enhancing these cities' musical scenes.
