Earning a music scholarship at eight, he attended King's College School and later studied at Royal Holloway University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Talbot's diverse works include concert music, film and television scores, pop arrangements, and compositions for dance. Initially focused on film/TV scores and pop arrangements, including work with The Divine Comedy, Talbot later transitioned into classical and dance compositions, contributing to ballets and silent film scores. His notable works include the scores for 'The League of Gentlemen,' 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' and 'Chroma.' Talbot's contributions to music have been recognized with awards, such as the Royal Television Society Award for Best Title Music and an Annie Award for his work on the animated movie 'Sing'.
