Joaquín Turina Pérez was a significant Spanish composer whose classical music compositions were often inspired by traditional Andalusian music. Born in Seville, he studied there and in Madrid, then moved to Paris from 1905 to 1914. In Paris, he took lessons from Vincent d'Indy and studied piano under Moritz Moszkowski. Influenced by impressionist composers like Ravel and Debussy, he married Obdulia Garzón in 1908, with whom he had five children. Upon his return to Madrid in 1914, he worked as a composer, teacher, and critic. In 1931, he became a professor of composition at the Madrid Royal Conservatory. Turina died in Madrid in 1949.
