Jerome David Kern

Jerome David Kern (January 27, 1885 – November 11, 1945) was an influential American composer of musical theatre and popular music. His work is a cornerstone of American theater, composing over 700 songs for more than 100 stage works. His famous pieces include 'Ol' Man River', 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes', and 'The Way You Look Tonight'. His Broadway musicals and Hollywood films expanded the form of musical theatre through his innovative use of music to develop characters and action. Kern's music became standards adapted by jazz musicians.
