Jacques François Antoine Marie Ibert was a French composer known for his eclectic style. Born on 15 August 1890 in Paris, he excelled at the Paris Conservatoire and won the Prix de Rome. His works include seven operas, five ballets, incidental music for plays and films, piano solo pieces, choral works, and chamber music. Ibert served as a naval officer in World War I and later directed the Académie de France at the Villa Medici in Rome. During World War II, he faced persecution and went into exile. After the war, he held prestigious positions in French musical life, including overseeing the Paris Opera and Opéra-Comique. He passed away on 5 February 1962 in Paris.
