More about Jaap Geraedts
Jaap Geraedts was a Dutch composer and flutist, born in The Hague on July 12, 1924. He began his music education with his father, Henri Geraedts, a composer, music pedagogue, and choir conductor. Between 1943 to 1952, he studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, learning composition, instrumentation, flute, and orchestra direction. His oeuvre centers on choral works, symphony orchestra pieces, songs, and chamber music, with the flute playing a significant role, notably in his 'Sonatina for Flute and Piano' from 1953, a popular piece in the Netherlands. Geraedts also served as a flute teacher, music reviewer, and later as an artistic advisor to the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, actively promoting the work of Willem Pijper. He passed away on August 31, 2003, in The Netherlands.
