More about Ivor Novello
Ivor Novello, born David Ivor Davies, was a multi-talented Welsh artist, noted for his achievements as a composer, actor, dramatist, and singer. His premier success came with the song 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' in 1914, marking his status as a songwriter. Post-World War I, he composed scores for musical comedies shaped by operatic styles, often collaborating with Christopher Hassall. Transitioning to the screen, Novello starred in Hitchcock's 'The Lodger' and 'Downhill' in 1927 and held the title role in 'Liliom'. Despite a Hollywood stint, he favored British stage, renowned for works like 'Glamorous Night' and 'The Dancing Years'. His repertoire expanded with musicals including 'Perchance to Dream' and 'King's Rhapsody'. Posthumously, the Ivor Novello Awards were founded to honor his legacy in music.
