More about Irish Traditional
Irish traditional music, also known as Irish trad, Irish folk music, and other variants, is a genre of folk music that originated in Ireland. Characterized by its rich history and the use of at least ten traditional instruments since Gaelic Ireland, such as the cruit and cláirseach (harps), tiompán (a bowed or plucked string instrument), various woodwinds and brass, and the fiddle, which evidence suggests was used as early as the 8th century. The 18th and 19th centuries saw the collection of Irish folk music by noted collectors, but it was not until the 19th century that its ballad printers were established in Dublin. After a period of decline post-World War II, Irish traditional music enjoyed a revival, thanks in part to the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and the Fleadh Cheoil music festival. Its international influence peaked following the success of artists like The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, fostering a global appreciation for the genre`[1]`.
