Huang Ruo is a Chinese-born composer, pianist, and vocalist, currently based in the United States. Born in 1976 on Hainan Island, China, Huang was immersed in music from a young age by his composer father. By age 12, he attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, later continuing studies in the US at Oberlin Conservatory and Juilliard School. A recipient of the Henry Mancini Award, Huang co-founded the International Contemporary Ensemble and established Future in Reverse (FIRE), which focuses on multimedia and cross-genre projects. His notable work includes 'The Yellow Earth', which won the Celebrate Asia! competition and was performed by the Seattle Symphony.
