More about Henk Bijvanck
Henk Bijvanck was born on November 6, 1909, in Koedoes on Java, which was then part of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). He studied piano and theory with Carl Oberstadt in The Hague, before moving to Vienna in 1929 to work with Franz Schmidt and Prof. Andrasszy. Bijvanck worked as a pianist in Vienna from 1932 to 1938, then moved back to The Hague. During World War II, he worked at the Institut der Wiener Sängerknaben and at the Wiener Volksoper. Post-WWII, he was a piano teacher at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam and connected to the radio. His works include piano pieces, concertos, a requiem, and symphonies. He died on September 5, 1969, in Heemstede, Netherlands.
