Helen Grime MBE, born in 1981, is a Scottish composer known for her contemporary classical music. She received acclaim for her composition 'Virga,' recognized by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as a top new classical work of the 2000s. Born in York, England, she spent her formative years in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. A multi-talented musician, Grime learned the oboe from an early age, and by 12, she was composing music. She studied at the Royal College of Music, earning first-class honours and a master's degree. As a composer, Grime has written pieces commissioned by prestigious groups like the London Symphony Orchestra and was appointed as the associate composer for The Hallé Orchestra. Her accolades include a 'Making Music' prize from the British Composer Awards and an MBE for services to music in 2020.
