More about György Ligeti
György Sándor Ligeti was a Hungarian-Austrian composer of contemporary classical music, acclaimed as one of the most important avant-garde composers in the latter half of the twentieth century. Born in Romania and having lived in Hungary, he emigrated to Austria in 1956 and became an Austrian citizen in 1968. As a professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, he influenced many students until his retirement in 1989. Ligeti's legacy includes innovative techniques such as micropolyphony, and his work is known by the public through the use of his music in film soundtracks, notably Stanley Kubrick's movies.
