Grażyna Bacewicz was a Polish composer and violinist of Lithuanian origin, celebrated as the second Polish female composer to gain national and international recognition. Born in Łódź to a musical family, she received her first violin and piano lessons from her father. She progressed to study at the Warsaw Conservatory and later in Paris, ultimately becoming a principal violinist with the Polish Radio Orchestra. Bacewicz also thrived as a composer during World War II, despite the difficult circumstances. Post-war, she focused solely on composition, earning many awards before her death in Warsaw in 1969.
