More about Giovanni Gabrieli
Giovanni Gabrieli (c. 1554/1557 – 12 August 1612) was an Italian composer and organist, notable as one of the most influential musicians of his time and as a key figure in the transition from the Renaissance to Baroque idioms. Born in Venice, he may have studied with his uncle, composer Andrea Gabrieli. Gabrieli's work at St Mark's Basilica and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, made him a pivotal composer of the Venetian School. His music influenced composers all over Europe, and his students, including Heinrich Schütz, further disseminated his style. Gabrieli composed both sacred and secular music, advancing the use of dynamics and spatially separated groups of musicians. He died in Venice in 1612【27†source】【28†source】.
