Georges Auric was a French composer, born in Lodève, Hérault. A member of Les Six, a group informally associated with Jean Cocteau and Erik Satie, Auric had a vibrant early career, orchestrating music for ballets and stage productions before he was 20. Recognized as a child prodigy, he first performed at 14, and by his 20s, Auric was a significant avant-garde music contributor in Paris. Transitioning in the 1930s, he found success as a film composer, notably for 'À Nous la Liberté' and the iconic 'Moulin Rouge'. Auric became director of the Opéra National de Paris and SACEM's chairman. He continued to write chamber music and was known for his criticism promoting Les Six's ideals and esprit nouveau. He died in Paris in 1983.
