More about Franz Xaver Gruber
Franz Xaver Gruber was an Austrian primary school teacher, church organist, and composer known for composing the music to 'Stille Nacht' ('Silent Night'). Born in the village of Hochburg-Ach, Upper Austria, Gruber developed his musical talents under the guidance of the Hochburger schoolteacher Andreas Peterlechner and Georg Hartdobler. His career was multifaceted, involving him in teaching, church caretaking, and performing as choir director, singer, and organist. Notably, he collaborated with Joseph Mohr to create 'Silent Night', which debuted in 1818. Gruber's contribution to religious music extends beyond this famed carol, having composed many carols and masses that continue to be a part of Austrian ecclesiastical tradition【43†source】.
