More about Fernando Sor
Fernando Sor, baptized José Fernando Macario Sors, was a Spanish classical guitarist and renowned composer who lived during the early Romantic era. Born on 14 February 1778 in Barcelona to a well-off family, Sor was to follow his family's military tradition but instead pursued music passionately after exposure to Italian opera and the guitar. He excelled in writing solo classical guitar music and expanded his talents across operas, symphonies, and ballets, with notable works such as 'Cendrillon.' Sor's musical journey took him through Spain, Paris, and London, with his last years spent in Paris, where he composed the majority of his classical guitar legacy. He passed away on 10 July 1839.
