Erland von Koch

Sigurd Christian Jag Erland Vogt von Koch (1910-2009) was a notable Swedish composer. Erland von Koch, son of composer Sigurd von Koch, was born and raised in Stockholm. He honed his musical skills at the Stockholm Conservatory and furthered his composition, conducting and piano studies in Germany and France with notable musicians like Paul Höffer, Clemens Krauss and Claudio Arrau. His pedagogical efforts included teaching at the Karl Wohlfarts Musikschule and later at the Stockholm Conservatory. Von Koch's works, which include symphonies, operas, ballets, and film music, are distinguished by their unembellished style and compelling melodies. His contributions earned him myriad honors and a place in the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
