George Gard "Buddy" DeSylva (January 27, 1895 – July 11, 1950) was an American songwriter, film producer, and record executive. He co-wrote many popular songs and co-founded Capitol Records with Johnny Mercer and Glenn Wallichs. Born in New York City and raised in California, DeSylva attended the University of Southern California. His notable works include songs used by Al Jolson on Broadway and collaborations with composer George Gershwin. DeSylva joined ASCAP, served on its board, and became a producer of musicals in Hollywood. He was Fox Studios' producer and later became the executive producer at Paramount Pictures. He founded Capitol Records and the Cowboy label. DeSylva died at the age of 55 in Hollywood.
