Bruce Welch OBE, born Bruce Cripps on 2 November 1941, is an English guitarist, songwriter, producer, singer, and businessman, renowned as a founding member of the Shadows. Born in Bognor Regis, Welch's influential career began with his Tyneside skiffle band, the Railroaders. He rose to prominence in September 1958, joining the Drifters, which evolved into the Shadows, Cliff Richard's backing band. Welch is credited with several number 1 hit singles and served as a musical consultant for the West End musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was appointed OBE in 2004【25†source】.
