Sir Brian Harold May CBE, born 19 July 1947, is an English musician, songwriter, singer, astrophysicist, and animal rights activist. Renowned as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of Queen, he co-founded the band alongside Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor. His signature guitar work and songwriting were pivotal for Queen's success. May is recognized as a virtuoso and for his Red Special guitar. He wrote numerous Queen hits, including 'We Will Rock You' and 'The Show Must Go On'. Following Mercury's death, Queen went on hiatus, reuniting later for performances with different vocalists. May has a PhD in astrophysics and was Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University. He collaborates with NASA, campaigns for animal rights, and was knighted in 2023 for his services to music and charity【29†source】.
