Augustinus Franz Kropfreiter was an Austrian composer and organist, known for his contributions to the organ repertoire. Born on 9 September 1936 in Hargelsberg, he attended Bischöfliches Gymnasium Petrinum before entering the Augustinian Canons of St. Florian in 1953. He studied music at the Linz Anton Bruckner Private University and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Kropfreiter served as an organist in Sankt Florian, taught the St. Florian Boys' Choir, and directed the monastery choir. He composed notable organ works, orchestral pieces, masses, choral and chamber music, and his compositions often featured polytonality and Hindemithian counterpoint. He passed away on 26 September 2003 in Sankt Florian.
