Aretha Louise Franklin, known as the 'Queen of Soul,' was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she began her career as a child singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. She achieved fame after signing with Atlantic Records in 1966, releasing hit albums and singles such as 'Respect,' 'I Say a Little Prayer,' and 'Freeway of Love.'
