More about Andy Razaf
Andy Razaf, born Andriamanantena Paul Razafinkarefo, was an American poet, composer, and lyricist behind well-known songs such as 'Ain't Misbehavin'' and 'Honeysuckle Rose'. Born to a Malagasy royal lineage and an African American consul's daughter, his works reflect a blend of cultures. He started his career as a lyricist in Tin Pan Alley and collaborated with notable musicians like Fats Waller, Don Redman, and Eubie Blake. His contributions to the Harlem Renaissance and the 'New Negro Movement' were significant, with works reflecting African American life. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame a year before his death in California in 1973.
