Andrew Carter, born in Leicester on December 13, 1939, is an English composer, conductor, and arranger. He studied music at the University of Leeds, then joined the York Minster choir as a bass. In 1965, Carter founded the Chapter House Choir, which gained national recognition under his 17-year leadership. After a stint in New Zealand in 1984, he returned to England to concentrate on composition. His works have been published by Oxford University Press, and several have featured in the BBC's Nine Lessons and Carols service by the Choir of King's College, Cambridge.
