More about André Jolivet
André Jolivet (8 August 1905 – 20 December 1974) was a French composer with a deep devotion to French culture and musical thought. He was influenced by acoustics, atonality, and both ancient and modern musical styles. His works encompass a wide range of forms and ensembles. Born in Paris, Jolivet was initially trained to be a teacher before pursuing composition under Paul Le Flem and Edgard Varèse. He co-founded La jeune France to promote a more human and less abstract compositional style. Jolivet aimed to rediscover music's original meanings and served as the musical director of the Comédie Française from 1945 to 1959.
