André Caplet (23 November 1878 – 22 April 1925) was a French composer and conductor of classical music. A contemporary and friend of Claude Debussy, he is known for completing the orchestration of several of Debussy's compositions as well as arranging them for different instruments. Born in Le Havre, Caplet showed early musical promise, which led to a prestigious education and numerous awards, including the coveted Prix de Rome in 1901. His career was multifaceted, involving composition, conducting, and during World War I, military service. Caplet's work is distinguished by its artistic breadth, including vocal, chamber, orchestral, and piano music, with an innovative use of voices in instrumental settings. His close collaboration with Debussy significantly influenced the French musical landscape.
